The coolest thing about my job is that I get to meet and talk with my heroes. On this episode of Live Your Passion TV, I interview a women whom I feel is one of the greatest singer- songwriters working today. And you probably haven’t heard of her—yet.
Antje Duvekot is one of folk music’s rising stars. With a haunting voice and thought-provoking lyrics, Antje’s songs tell stories and take you on emotional journeys, all while combining that VOICE and melodies that stay in your head for days.
Born in Germany, at the age of 13 Antje Duvekot was transplanted to the US. She spoke not a word of English and the sense of isolation she felt growing up in Delaware at that young age translates into some of her songs. Antje holds three top songwriting awards including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. In May, the Indie Acoustic Project tapped her latest album, New Siberia, as one of the top Singer-Songwriter releases of 2012. Q Magazine called New Siberia “as empowering as Carole King’s groundbreaking album, Tapestry.” Her songMerry-Go-Round was featured in a Bank of America Super Bowl Commercial. Now based in Boston, Antje tours the US and Europe to appreciative audiences and rave reviews.
Not only was I lucky enough to meet her, she was kind enough to share with me the details of her journey: what it’s like to build a recording career from the grassroots level, what it’s like to travel from show to show, what it means to keep going because every fibre of your body tells you this is what you absolutely must do.

And let me know what you think. Is she your new favorite singer, too?
